“Ele Não”: Between democracy, citizen distrust and representation of the popular. An analysis of the “Ele Não” phenomenon during the 2018 election campaign in Brazil

El trabajo se basará en analizar el fenómeno del “Ele Não” como un acontecimiento de la política contemporánea que se gestó distanciándose de la manera tradicional de hacer política partidaria durante la campaña presidencial de septiembre y octubre del 2018 en Brasil. Para ello se tomarán distintos artículos publicadas en portales de noticias a nivel mundial y regional que dan cuenta de que fue un movimiento democrático de masas que nació a partir de la movilización de mujeres brasileras que buscaban demostrar su oposición al candidato a presidente Jair Bolsonaro. Se analizará si este lema se consolidó como un “significante vacío” forjado en un doble movimiento ascendente y descendente en el que pudo representar una cadena equivalencial de identificaciones políticas. Para dicho análisis se tomarán los conceptos que introduce Ernesto Laclau en “La razón populista”. Se buscará entender aquel fenómeno desde la perspectiva de Pierre Rosanvallon para determinar si este ocurrió en un contexto de desconfianza ciudadana hacia el sistema democrático. A su vez, se intentará determinar si tal fenómeno puede ser explicado a través de las teorías clásicas sobre la democracia a partir de las críticas que les hace a éstas Peter Bachrach.The work will be based on the analysis of the phenomenon of “Ele Não” as a contemporary politic event that was created in a truly different way from the traditional one for doing partisan politics during the presidential campaign of September and October of 2018 in Brazil. There will be gathered different articles that were published in news portals at global and regional levels that show it was a mass democratic movement that was born because of the mobilization of Brazilian women who were looking to demonstrate their opposition to the President candidate Jair Bolsonaro. It will be analysed whether this slogan was consolidated as an “empty signifier” forged in a double ascending and descending movement in which it could represent an equivalence chain of political identifications. For this analysis the concepts introduced by Ernesto Laclau in “Populist Reason” will be taken into account. The analysis will seek to understand the phenomenon from the perspective of Pierre Rosanvallon in a way to determine if this happened in the context of citizen distrust for the democratic system. In addition to this, an attempt will be made to determine if such phenomenon can be explained through the classical theories about democracy based on the criticisms that Peter Bachrach made.Fil: Fratarelli, Thelma.
